DESCRIPTION: Action-oriented, self-starter. Takes active role in identifying process improvement opportunities and in solving technical problems. Able to manage a group of engineers to produce high quality results.
Ability to "think outside of the box", finding innovative solutions to engineering problems.
Cost conscious and thorough analysis - finds the most economical solutions to solve problems.
Manage and execute projects with diligence including documentation, management of vendors and internal resources.
Logical and independent Manager.
Acts to generate multiple solution options and make principled recommendations.
Specific Duties:
Pilot Plant Management & Scheduling
a. Participate in monthly Commercialization Committee meeting and manage pilot plant activities to support new product introduction process.
b. Evaluate and recommend the purchase of pilot plant equipment to meet future needs.
Project Planning & Execution
a. Design and implement a project planning and monitoring process that establishes project priorities and allocates resources based on business strategies and priorities.
b. Ensure that procedures (e.g., stage-gate review process) and systems (e.g., Microsoft project) are in place and utilized.
c. Decide how the engineering staff will be assigned to individual projects.
Project Audit
a. In collaboration with finance dept, establish and implement procedures for quantitatively measuring the success of projects in terms of their actual time, cost, and return vs. original plan.
Functional Excellence
Evaluate the competitive standing of the engineering function and recommend changes when appropriate including recruiting needs.
Set professional development objectives with individuals in the function.
Monitor the effectiveness of engineering/operations interface and take action as appropriate.
Provide support for health, safety, and environmental activities.
Budgeting
BOM Update: review and correct/update all BOM's and scrap factors to ensure they are correct and reflect optimum values.
Manpower Budgeting: develop and recommend the manpower and expense budget for the function.
Capital Budgeting: Work with Plant Managers and Vice President, Manufacturing & Engineering to develop and maintain the master list of capital projects for the company. Recommends projects for elimination or rescheduling based on priorities and budget constraints.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 5 years engineering management experience in technical environment similar to Company in size, complexity, and international character.
Demonstrated leadership skills running a function in a large specialty chemical company.
Demonstrated ability to lead a team that can engineer, build, and operate fully integrated large-scale specialty chemical plants.
Fluency with commonly used business and engineering software for example, Microsoft Word and Excel, AutoCAD, Aspen Technologies.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from highly reputable University. Master's in Chemical Engineering, Engineering Management, or MBA highly desirable.
